Welcome to the rich history of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. In the fall of 1836, our congregation held its first meeting in a barn. By July 1841, with the generous land grant from David Stepleton, we were able to construct a log house that served as both a church and a school, marking a significant milestone in our community's journey. They Later out grew that building and built a wood framed building 1852. (no picture)

In 1875, we outgrew our old building and constructed a new brick one that could accommodate our growing congregation of 252 members. This new church became a vibrant center for our community, allowing us to come together in faith and fellowship.
